Corruption is part & parcel of the Hindu/Muslim rule of India. It is said by many historians that Corruption was introduced into this country by the Muslim Invaders & Britishers only continued it : Corruption has always been here,right f rom the days of Ramayana & Mahabharat:We r not new to this.
Full blown corruption scams were almost RARE in the first two decades after Independence(1947) In the early ears we had Pratap singh Kairon, of Punjab, Biju Pattanaik of Orissa,(1960)Chamanbhai Patel of Gujarat, jagannath Misra of Bihar(1970) were trail blazers of CORRUPTION.in this country.where 200 Jeeps were ordered from a private British Co.(Only 155 were received) in which Krishna menon & Nehru were involved: Orders were placed by passing many laid down procedures: Rustom Nagarwala ( A Raw Officer) walked away with 60 lakhs of rupees from SBI branch ,Delhi,on the basis of a mere fake phone call, by an imposter,impersonating Indhira gandhi:
The major scam that made people sit with alert & take notice was that of Haridass Mundhra episode of 1967 :A calcutta based stock broker/Bussinessman who manipulated the stock market to his advantage: LIC invested Rs 1.48 crores in companies that were found to be shell cos. Firoze Gandhi who was a silent MP, till then, took up this matter in parliament(Nehru seems to have tipped off ,his son in law),the one man commission & its findings confirmed the SCAM, the FM. TT Krishnamachari had to resign.
Rajeev Gandhi, Indhira' son (,during Indhira's Premiership ),extra constitutional authority & Corruption cases,put Indhira on the defensive It was this inflexible attitude of the then PM,that started the Jaya Prakash Narayan's movement(1970) that led to the Declaration of EMERGENCY: Rajeev Gandhi wanted to dissolve the institution of POWER BROKERS,& ended up in BOFORS SCANDAL(The nation re-named him as Bofor Gandhi) The 155 mm ,Howitzer Gun (1987) was purchased( 1.4 Billion Contract) & the scamsters received kickbacks. The Sweedish national Radio first announced the commission/Kickbacks paid by the firm BOFORS AB,: Though Kick Backs had been Banned & Olaf Palme assured "no Kickbacks were paid" yet due to Public pressure,a joint parliamentary committee was set up to examine the matter. The Govt of the day wanted to suppress the matter: The congress lost the Elections in 1989 on A/c of this scandal;
